LCPS operates two schools in East Oakland:

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Eligibility:

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is a full-day class offered at both Lighthouse and Lodestar. 

For the 23-24 school year, children born between September 2, 2018, and April 1, 2019, are eligible. 

For the 24-25 school year, children born between September 2, 2019, and June 1, 2020, are eligible.

How to Apply for Lighthouse and Lodestar

Applying for your child to attend Lighthouse Community Public Schools is easy, and we're here to help.

  • What you'll need to get started

    You will be asked to upload some documents. It's best to have these ready before you begin the application: 

    • Student Vaccine Records 
    • Parent ID or Guardianship Info 
    • Student Birth Certificate 

    Applications will not be processed until all required student documents are received by the school.

  • Create an account

    This should take less than ten minutes. You will receive an email confirmation once your account is set up.

  • Start your online application

    Click on an APPLY NOW  button anywhere on this site. This will link you to our online application. Complete the guided step-by-step online application. You will be prompted to select the campus of your choice. An incomplete application can be saved. You may return later to complete it. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Don't worry, we'll send you reminders. A paper copy of your application is available at all participating charter schools. Email enroll@lighthousecharter.org to get a paper application.

  • Accept/decline offer

    Once we have all the necessary student documents, we will review your application. If there is a seat available for your child, you will receive an offer for your child to attend. Please accept or decline the offer so we can be sure about your child's attendance or give the seat to another applicant.


  • Registration

    If your student is offered a seat at LCPS and you accept the offer, you will need to complete a few registration forms. Someone from our enrollment team will contact you with the forms.

About Lighthouse Community Public Schools

Our schools are public, free, and open to all students, especially students who have been historically underserved by public education, including students of color, students with disabilities, and language learners. There are no tests or other barriers to admission. Admission is based on a lottery system. If applications exceed the spaces available, you will be placed on a waitlist.

Enrollment Timeline

Enrollment for the 24-25 school year opens:

November 13, 2023

Deadline for Round 1 (On-time) applications:

November 13, 2023 – February 16, 2024

Late application period begins:

February 19, 2024

Lottery:

March 6, 2024

Offers released to public:

March 7, 2024

Deadline to ACCEPT or DECLINE lottery seat offers:

Enrollment FAQs

  • Do you accept online applications?

    Yes! The application process is quick and easy. Begin by clicking APPLY NOW. If you do not already have one, create an account. Then complete the step-by-step application. Be sure to include the required documentation, then click submit. You will receive a confirmation of your application submission.

  • What if the lottery has already passed?

    LCPS continues to enroll throughout the year until we reach capacity. Don't hesitate to apply for your student; we will contact you to let you know if a seat is available. 

  • Does anyone get a preference in the lottery?

    Yes. We prioritize:

    • Siblings of enrolled and admitted students (to keep families together)
    • Children of Lodestar or Lighthouse staff and LCPS Board Members (not to exceed 2.5% of total enrollment)
    • Students who are homeless/unsheltered during the time of enrollment or who become unsheltered while on the waiting list
    • Students who are currently enrolled in or who reside within the elementary school attendance area of the district’s public elementary school(s) in which Lodestar is located
    • Students living in the 94621 or 94603 zip code
    • A sibling of a Lighthouse alum (Does not apply to Lodestar applicants at this time)
    • Students zoned to attend underperforming schools within OUSD 4 in which 70% or more of students qualify for free and reduced lunch: to provide an equitable, high-quality public school option to Oakland students and families
    • Other prospective students residing within OUSD boundaries: as required by Education Code Section 47605(d)(2)(B) and to serve as a public school option for students and families of Oakland

  • How will I know if my child has been accepted?

    You will receive an email notification.
